A retired Navy Seal officer, County Commissioner Anthony O'Brien is honored to represent 500,000 residents in 27 towns in one of Massachusetts' oldest & largest counties.
A native of Brockton, he served in the military following the footsteps of many family members including his Dad, a U.S. Marine in Korea and then a Deacon in Brockton, Uncle Dick, a National Commandant of the Marine Corps League, Uncle Dave, a Commanding Officer of the USS Constitution, and cousin Tom, a Top Gun pilot.
His first Mom Marigold died in a home fire when Anthony was age 6. His second Mom Lorraine died of pancreatic cancer in 1997. His third Mom Andrea is a nurse. He learned so much from these special ladies. He has 14 siblings, 30 nieces/nephews & his beautiful Staci delivered their most recent blessing Anthony Jr. in August.
Anthony joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the infantry (1st Marine Div. with 1st Bn., 5th Marines & 1st Recon Bn.) and then transferred to the Navy Seals completing Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Training with Class 156.
A decorated Gulf War veteran, he was assigned to SEAL Team FIVE and served for over 20 years in command & staff positions, trained in 25 states & deployed to 30 countries for crisis response, search & rescue, and disaster relief operations in Asia, the middle east & Europe.
In 1999, he was selected as Maritime Operations Officer of U.S. Special Operations Command's Joint Task Force Y2K and was then elevated to Training Officer of Naval Special Warfare Group TWO.
In 2000, he completed U.S. Army Ranger School with Class 11-00.
In 2001, he was selected Commander of Navy Seals & Army Special Forces Detachment in Kosovo. He served with several U.S. Secret Service Presidential Protective Details, most recently in Kosovo.
He was selected to a U.S. Presidential Management Fellowship in 2002 and served as Congressional Budget Analyst for the Department of Energy.
In 2006, he led a security detail in Iraq that protected a female American journalist & author researching combat operations.
Anthony is a 2011 inductee to the Cardinal Spellman High School Drama Hall of Fame.
A member of several civic & charity boards, he has served as Plymouth County Commissioner since 2008. Commissioner O'Brien dedicates his service to all in any uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice or who work hard to give back to make our communities safe & our nation great.
